This weekend we will be hosting a Foxtrot lesson with guest instructor Gabe Gamboa! Gabe has graciously offered to come teach the lesson FREE OF CHARGE to the students. We will be meeting promptly at 6:30 in the MPR.

AFTERWARDS some of us will be going to Dance King Studios in Leesburg for a Saturday Night Social. There will be brief lessons with several styles of ballroom, swing, and latin dances. Cost is $15 per person and the event runs until 10pm. Meet outside the BHC steps after the lesson for carpooling.

12/04/2019

Extra practice tomorrow (Wed 12/4) in the MPR at 6:30. We will be reviewing basic waltz/foxtrot as well as any requests for swing. Free dancing to follow.

This Saturday (12/7) before the Christmas Ball, we will be hosting professional instructor Gabe Gamboa once again for a basic swing and waltz lesson at 6 PM in the MPR. *Please come on time,* as we will not be taking time to review once the lesson starts.

11/23/2019

Lesson at 6pm in the MPR tonight.
We will be going over some basics of waltz and maybe a simple swing sequence.

11/09/2019

Swing as usual in the gym at 6! Grace and Elias will be teaching tonight. We will also be going over some country/square dances for the Hoedown.

10/26/2019

Reminder: Tonight, guest instructor Gabe Gamboa will be teaching. Gabe is the Studio Director at Arthur-Murray studios in Ashburn. We will start with free dancing in the gym at 6pm. Please try to be on time, as he will be gauging the skill of the group.

10/19/2019

Swing as usual at 6pm in the gym. We will continue teaching fancy Lindy and normal spins, then around 7:15ish move into country group dances for the Hoedown.

Keep an eye out: in future weeks, we will likely have a dance studio owner coming in to teach PLUS it's about time for a social dancing field trip.

10/12/2019

No lesson tonight, but there will still be free dancing in the MPR at 6:30. There's no school to keep you away this week! :)

10/05/2019

Swing in the gym at 6 as usual. We will be going over the Lindy basic (which complements 6-count), redirects in both timings, and the continuous pretzel into a dip (a personal favorite).

09/25/2019

Reminder: Extra swing practice in the MPR tonight at 6pm.

No formal lesson, but we will refresh on the content YOU want to learn! Send us a message if you have any spins, dips, aerials, or other content you would like to learn or review.

09/18/2019

In preparation for the Freshman Dance, we will be teaching dips and tricks this FRIDAY in the gym. The beginner lesson and review will begin at 6pm, and we will start the more "advanced" lesson around 6:30.

We will also have an extra practice session next Wednesday in the BHC Multipurpose Room at 6. Note space in the MPR is more limited and will make it more difficult to teach newcomers. This is intended as a brief refresher with practice, not to review all the content thus far.

Last, please note there will be no official practice this Saturday due to instructor availability. Some of the regulars may opt to visit Glenn Echo for social dancing instead.

09/14/2019

Swing is in the gym tonight at 6 PM. We'll be doing an east coast swing lesson going over a few basic moves you can add to your step and then we'll get right to the free dancing!
No intermediate tonight.

09/07/2019

Beginner lesson tonight at 6:00
Intermediate lesson and dancing at 6:30! We'll be in the basketball gym tonight.
See you all there!

Come to swing lessons, learn the basics, and then explore your own style and groove!

Come to swing lessons, learn the basics, and then explore your own style and groove!

08/31/2019

Swing is in the gym tonight at 6 PM, *NOT* 6:30. This will give us more time to learn the basics of 6-count swing and a few moves before free dancing.

Lindy Hop to come in following weeks for "intermediates" (really, anyone who wants to try something harder/fancier). However, learning 6-count first will help a lot.

There will be no swing practice this weekend due to the choral concert. Private lessons are available through the week until the day of Liberty Ball.

04/06/2019

Swing lessons at 6:30 tonight as usual. We will be in the gym if it is available, otherwise in the MPR. Depending on the balance of regulars vs pre-Liberty Ball newcomers, Elias will either continue teaching Lindy Hop or give a refresher on some basic moves.

03/23/2019

This week, Elias will continue teaching the basics of Lindy Hop. See you all at 6:30 in the MPR!

03/15/2019

Tomorrow Elias will host a lesson at 6:30 in the Gym (MPR as backup, as usual). When the CME meeting ends between 7:30-8, we will gather on the BHC steps and leave for Glen Echo.

Message Garrett Yoder or Jane White if you need a ride.

02/23/2019

In light of Sadie's last night and the chorale concert tonight, there will be no swing practice this week.

02/16/2019

Last practice before Sadie's, and it looks like the Gym is open. 6:30 as always. Elias and Garrett will continue with form exercises and other dance styles you might want to know for Sadie's.

Edit: Once again, the Gym is reserved without the reservation being properly marked in EMS.

02/09/2019

Swing will be at 6:30 tonight in the Gym. We will likely review some common form issues and go over the Continuous Pretzel and Floor Sweep.

02/02/2019

The SWD instructors are heading to Glen Echo tonight. Message Elias Gannage, Garrett Yoder, or Gabi for details.
